He's very much alive and I think he still has a radio show on classic rock radio. He plays out a couple times a year, too, and I even know people who go out to those shows.
If you have some extra time on your hands, you should google Michael Stanley Superstar. I think some of it is on youtube. It's a spoof of Jesus Christ Superstar and The Michael Stanley Band.

i'm happy for him, though. i had some friends that were fanatical about him. i never quite got into him like that.
